Last Generation Of Jehovah's witnesses?
by Dune inhere's an interesting idea my brother and i have been discussing when we do parking lot duty during the service meetings.
we've come to the conclusion that this is essentially the last generation of jehovah's witnesses.
i thought you'd have to be young to notice this, but its pretty apparent anywhere we go.

It has been said that the internet will be the downfall of the WBTS, which may well be. I never really thought about it but with children surfing the web almost as soon as they can walk and having access to all the info that is out there I think it will be harder to raise them a dub than it was say when I was a child and could be realatively isolated from unwelcome information.

My thoughts on men who Body Build
by kls inmy two son's are body builders and i am wonering if they think they can take on the world .
last year my son was in a bar fight and got sucker punched in the eye which required 5 stiches ,now my 21 year old comes home with a huge black eye, the biggest i have ever seen trying to break up a fight.. .
now both these people that got a good shot at my kids where men much smaller in stature and size and seemed to land good punches.

Dieting is about sculpting the body
Abbadon, ah, no, sorry, dieting is about stripping bodyfat from the body, it has absolutely nothing to do with sculpting the body. By enlarging targeted muscles a person can change the visual aspect of their body, ie. by building the side deltoids they can make their shoulders wider and thus make their waist appear smaller. Only by changing the size of the muscles do we actually sculpt the body.
As for aggression; doesn't it strike you as odd that a non-contact sport that involves looking in a mirror and posing on a stage has a reputation for violence and aggression
First it doesn't have a reputation for violence and agression, but even though it is a non-contact sport, I will tell you when you are looking at a 500 pound squat for reps it takes a serious amount of aggression to put yourself underneath that sort of weight and grind out the reps Serious weight training, not Denise Austin video workouts, but heavy weight training requires a huge amount of the same sort of natural aggression that can be found in contact sports, except that aggression is taken out on the weights.

I have held my peace on this thread as some others have but this is just insane. I have been a bodybuilder/powerlifter for 25 years, competitive in my 20's, I say this only to indicate I have some knowledge of the topic. First, this thread is about fighting, bodybuilding got drug into the mix since KLS's kids happen to be bodybuilders.
The fact of the matter is that aggression can be found in any of the "macho" sports, football, hockey, baseball, wrestling, basketball, and yes bodybuilding. Any of you been on a high school or college football team? Fights happen about once a practice between big, strong, boys/men with lots of testosterone and training that promotes agression. Hey watch ESPN, fights on the basketball court, pitchers shoving camera men, and for christ's sake hockey where fighting is as much a part of the game as the puck is.
Give me a freaking break singling out bodybuilders as this ultra agressive group. 144001 was right, that is stereotyping of the most blatant sort, and sorry, it doesn't matter whether is something hereditary or voluntary, stereotyping is stereotyping. As for all bodybuilders being knuckle draggers, I'm a lawyer, and have known physicians, engineers, etc, etc that are avid bodybuilders, yeah, I can quote Shakespeare and Wordsworth.
And for the disparaging remarks about bodybuilding itself, maturbation without release, or rampant egotism. Makes me want to puke. There is egotism in just about any pursuit you want to name, acting, pro athletics, politics, etc. Bodybuilders look in the mirror a lot because that is how they determine if their physique is responding to their training or not. You might as well call a sprinter an egomaniac for checking his stopwatch after running the 100. Bodybuilding is about sculpting the body, creating a work of art with the body as the canvas. It is an incredibly gruelling and demanding endevour, both physically and mentally.
And last but not leaset I love the guys that come in the gym with the pipe stem arms and sunken chests and tell me that they like to work out but are worried about getting "too big", I have to really work hard not to laugh as I assure them that they really don't need to worry about that as they curl away with the 15 pound dumbbells.

Hey Tower, I see our beloved Bucks are ranked in the top ten, unfortunately Michigan (i.e. Satan's spawn) are ranked higher.

BL, in our case we had a choice, we could do in house hospice (which we chose) or there was a hospice facility close by. Its up to the family and obviously the person's condition as to whether you do in home or at a facility.
Hospice set up all sorts of support things, from an aide that came and bathed dad everyday, to a nurse that came once or twice a week for med checks, to a chaplin (how the hell that ever happened is beyond me, but mom actually let this chaplin stop by as long as they didn't discuss doctrine) to a massage therapist, it was just amazing. They also arranged for all the equipment that we needed, hospital bed, oxygen, etc.

BL, the way it was explained to me is that a person becomes eligible for Hospice care when they have a terminal diagnosis. The local Hospice here operated out of one of the hospitals in the city. You can call them directly and ask if your mother qualifies for their services which I believe are chiefly paid for through Medicare.
They are all about making the person comfortable in the terminal stages and offer excellent support for the caregivers.

BL, I really understand your pain, lost my dad 1 year ago the 20th of this month to a brain tumor. We did home hospice and quite frankly it was rough.
There have been lots of good suggestions and I can't recommend Hospice enough, they were the most amazing people organization I have ever dealt with.
My thoughts are with you.

Pete, I agree that without some of the bombast the message might get through a little better and people might be a little more receptive. I think part of it is due to showmanship and some of it is the same thing you see on this forum when the science folks go berserk on the religious folks, they just flame them rather than trying to rationally walk them through the arguements and that just makes the religious folks dig their heels in harder.
